Finding the Right Business Part 4 – Eat the Elephant One Bite at a Time
Set big goals but make sure you know the next step!
We all want to do big things, and we should. Many, though, can only see the forest and they only have the ability to cut down the next tree. We all want the forest but focusing there alone can result in only a desire. You must have a step by step plan.
“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!”
Any viable business has a step by step plan to help you reach your goals. What do I need to do now (this month) to build the business I desire? Ask, can I clearly see the next step and not just the finish line of the marathon?
Recently, I was a part of a group of leaders that worked for several years to make sure that strategy was clear in our company. We modernized our compensation plan to pay more but the best part was how it clearly mapped out the steps. Instead of paying random bonuses we tied the bonuses to the strategy. It is kind of like the proverbial “yellow brick road”. The next step for every person building their business has the reward in the same place as your next step of your business plan.
It became so important to keep these amazing people on the right track (headed towards their “elephant”) that we put $109,000+ in rewards to make sure they clearly saw the path.
When looking at a business, make sure you set your goals (part-time, full-time, or ALL-IN) and that YOU clearly see every step along the way.
Who is your mentor? Who is your “buddy”? And, who are you going to mentor?
I like to say, when you’re hunting “elephants” you better have a plan to shoot some “squirrels” along the way! Otherwise you might starve to death!!
A dream without a plan, remains a dream!
